Founded by Vonny Law, Maquien is a British tailoring company that brings you outstanding stylish and practical garments for smart, casual and relaxed wear, in the town, city or country. Born from the riverbanks of Scotland, our cloths are sourced solely in Britain, and garments designed and manufactured in England.
WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
Started in 2008, Vonny Law wanted to go back into the “rag trade” as it was then known. She had a slightly quirky waistcoat made from an old coat, her favourite wardrobe item to this day. Around that time, she was on the riverbanks in Scotland with friends, including Mark Birkbeck, who built up the famous House of Bruar, a Scottish Country Clothing company. Having formed the idea and spoken about it, subsequently, Mark said that he would sell her some cloth to make waistcoats for her very first customers.
As the business grew, customers’ requests for jackets and other key wardrobe staples led Maquien to initially buy from a business who imported from Portugal. But soon Vonny found her way through much work, to have the garments made in England, and therefore supporting the UK textile manufacturing.
Today Vonny works on her own designs with pattern cutters, who have decades of experience and expertise behind them, giving discerning customers the opportunity to create one-off, completely bespoke and gorgeous wardrobe staples they can enjoy and cherish for years to come.
“I just adore making clothing for customers, every garment is an excitement to see it to fruition, never tire of it. I love meeting the customers, and often form a lovely correspondence and connection with them.” - Vonny Law
